SilverFast SE is especially designed for entry-level users. Images will benefit from SilverFast’s intelligent automatic functions which help to make the process of adjusting images much easier. Predictable color from the SilverFast SE preview, even for all kinds of negatives, gives imaging and color reproduction a new dimension while securing the correct workflow with the ScanPilot.
SilverFast SE offers high-end imaging technology for low-end scanners at a low cost. SilverFast SE is a simplified form of the full versions SilverFast AI that creates an optimized connection between high-quality professional imaging software and low-end scanners. SilverFast SE is designed to work with all major scanners. Images will especially benefit from SilverFast’s intelligent auto-adjust and LAB-based unsharp-masking, which does not sharpen the color noise of single channels, hence avoiding the extra noise.
SilverFast SE can be used as a Stand-alone Application or as a Plug-in for ADOBE Photoshop.
Process all picture frames from your preview with one click in batch mode. Integrated QuickTime movie tutorials (in each dialog) will help to quickly understand and benefit from each function.

| Automatic Frame Detection |
|
Multiple reflective or transparent images can now be selected, scanned and optimized automatically using the new Automatic Frame Detection.
The workflow is very simple:
- Perform a prescan or preview the image.
SilverFast will initially display one large frame for the entire preview window.
- Select AutoFrame button to activate the auto frame detection.
- SilverFast now generates individual frames for each image.
- The auto adjust will then optimize all images automatically.
- Additional corrections such as sharpening, image size or resolution can be done individually.
- All images will be corrected by a single scan. The batch function may also be used for this purpose.
Example: automatic frame detection in SilverFast Ai
Prescan without (left) and with (right) automatic frame detection
The automatic frame is available for all SilverFast 6.5 versions and is best suited to identify images which are positioned on the flatbed without an image holder.
In those cases where an image holder is required, the recommendation would be to generate an according template and save the positioned frames, "General / Save Frame".

| SilverFast Basic |
|
With version 6.5 SilverFast SE, SE Plus, DC SE and DC VLT include the new SilverFast Basic mode.
SilverFast Basic provides a simplified user interface to give beginners an easy start in SilverFast. In basic mode, users become familiar with the essential features of the imaging software while being presented only with minimum editing tools. Once a comfort level is attained, users can then switch to standard mode, where the full functionality and powerful features are then available for increased productivity.

| PDF Export |
 |
SilverFast 6.5 allows the user to easily convert documents into PDF files. This makes it easy to save or send documents or images. If a document is saved as a PDF file it uses less space compared to a "normal" file format.
PDF files keep the appearance of the originals and preserve all of the information. Textures, drawings, 3D- and colored graphics and especially pictures can be converted into PDF files irrespective of the original format without any changes in appearance.
PDF is a widespread standard for a secure and dependable interchange of electronic data, which is acknowledged worldwide and which is compatible with PDF/A, PDF/X and PDF/E.

| SRD® Smart Removal of Defects |
 |
|
SilverFast introduces software-based dust and scratch removal. SilverFast SRD is using unique normal and expert users controls that allow you to adjust the user interface to different requirements. A real-time window selection helps to quickly find the optimum settings for the SRD controls.
SilverFast’s dust and scratch removal has been integrated into the actual scan software workflow and can be used during the scan process. Aside from SilverFast Ai, the SRD process is also available in SilverFast HDR and can be applied to raw data.
Dust and scratches are recognized by SilverFast SRD highlighting the artifacts in red. With interactive controls the user can now decrease or increase how many artifacts will be picked up by the function. The real-time selection control helps to quickly find the best possible setting. Any image details that might be affected by SRD can comfortably be excluded with an exclude-mask.
Very difficult scratches that cannot be removed by a general setting, can be treated in another layer and successfully be removed. Up to four layers are available for SRD.
SilverFast SRD® is a highly adjustable, configurable and versatile feature.

| ACR® Adaptive Color Restoration |
| SilverFast ACR is part of the Selective Color Correction dialog. A checkbox will enable this function to bring back faded out colors or normalize over-saturated colors. A slider will give additional individual control to increase or decrease color saturation.
Adaptive Color Restoration nicely brings back the faded out colors or weak colors with an automatic function. The function’s strength can be controlled with a slider. Also too much saturation can be normalized or decreased.
ACR can also be used in conjunction with the Selective Color Correction. Any setting that has been chosen can now be influenced with the ACR function (e.g. if you have chosen your corrections but want more or less saturation), just use the ACR slider. The relation, between the color as defined by your Selective Color Corrections setting, will be kept.

| GANE® Grain- and Noise Elimination |
|
The reduction of grain and noise can be controlled in a “before and after preview” with respect to the final image. This substantially reduces artifacts from noise or film grain.
Grain becomes visible at higher resolutions with high speed film in the scanning process. The SilverFast GANE filter allows you to influence the strength of this function in three easy steps. In addition you can use a slider for fine tuning. Noise elimination will be more relevant for older scanners and digital cameras.

| USM® Professional sharpening dialog |
| Unsharp Masking is another way to get to professional quality. SilverFast enables the user to get to natural crisp sharpness with the Unsharp Masking dialog. This dialog is related to the final scan image, so it will show the reality of the result. All adjustments are displayed in real time. Since the SilverFast USM only sharpens the lightness differences, it avoids typical artifacts known from other imaging programs. Download the SilverFast demo and try for youself!

| NegaFix® Negative Optimization |
|
A new option in NegaFix offers a fast and simple solution to the existing issue of residual color casts in negative film profiles.
Distracting color casts or remnants of the orange mask can be removed quickly. SilverFast's new automatic CCR (Color Cast Removal) neutralizes these casts with a single click on the CCR button as shown below.

 |
 |
|
This function is easy and efficient to use and provides immediate results. All SilverFast versions which are presently equipped with NegaFix contain this improved feature.
New NegaFix film profiles have been added, e.g.: CityplaceFuji Pro 160S / Kodak 100UC.
Effect of CCR
The effects of CCR are already visible before any negative profiles have even been selected:

| Selective Color Correction |
 |
|
Selective Color Correction is a powerful tool to correct single colors without effecting other colors, which happens when you use Global Color Correction. This will enable you to achieve complex color corrections very easily and is a must for quality color work!
SilverFast's SE and SE Plus has a simple Selective Color Correction built upon practical presets that are selected from a Pop-Up menu.
Just click onto the color you would like to correct and SilverFast will automatically recognize and select the relevant color for you. Then you just select from the presets i.e. "brighter" or "stronger" or "redder", the relevant correction preset and you will immediately see the effect on your preview picture.
In addition you can always combine the effect with ACR - Adaptive Color Restoration to make the effect stronger or weaker.

| CMS® Simple Color Management |
|
The latest releases of SilverFast SE now also have a simple Color Management System implemented. Provided you have installed your original scanner driver, which have installed scanner input profiles, SilverFast SE will automatically use those profiles and select AdobeRGB as the internal 'Working' Color Space. As a result your colors will be much more accurate (more saturated) on your monitor.
In case your system also has sRGB installed, you would also see sRGB under the 'internal' Color Space pop-up selection and could select sRGB as your internal or Working Color Space.
