RemoteScan® is a
software solution that turns any document scanner, card scanner, flatbed scanner,
or other imaging device, into a network device right out of the box. With RemoteScan®
ordinary as well as high-end scanners can now be shared with other PCs or Thin Clients
across your entire network. Installed on a Terminal Services or Citrix® Server,
RemoteScan® allows users at workstations (PCs or Thin Clients) to scan directly
into any of their software applications which are running on the server.
RemoteScan® is an
easy to install, easy to use solution and does not require sharing of folders or
directories. RemoteScan® allows total customization of any scanner's interface (useful
for enterprises which need to 'lock-down' configuration options on a range of scanners).
Works with any TWAIN or WIA scanner and any application software, installs in minutes,
does not appreciably load network traffic and does not compromise network security.

- RemoteScan® is
Windows® software which converts any TWAIN or WIA scanner (flatbed, sheet feeder,
drum, USB, Parallel, etc.) straight out of the box, into a network scanner or network
imaging device.
- RemoteScan allows
a single scanner to be shared with other users over a network (IP, LAN, WAN), much
in the same way as it is common to share printers.
- With RemoteScan,
scanners connected directly to client workstations can be accessed by any software
running on Windows® Terminal Services or Citrix® servers. This is done without any
redirection or technical complexity; with RemoteScan Terminal Services / Citrix®
users easily scan directly from their workstations without compromising network
security in anyway and without having to establish shared folders or directories.
RemoteScan uses RDP and ICA protocols for total, secure integration with Windows®
Terminal Services and Citrix® environments.
- RemoteScan easily
installs on any PC running Windows (from Windows 98). RemoteScan also installs on
Thin Client appliances that are running XPe. RemoteScan, in any license configuration,
has a very small foot print (less than 2 MB).

- RemoteScan® for
LAN software has a user friendly installation script and installs easily onto PC's
or XPe Thin Client devices. Any type of Scanner can then be connected directly to
PC's or XPe Thin client devices, and converted instantly into a full-featured network
scanner.
- RemoteScan® for
LAN can be used with any low cost scanner as well as with any high-end high capacity
scanner; users on the LAN can fully utilize the sheet feeding, duplex and advanced
features of any scanner.
- With RemoteScan®
for LAN, save thousands of dollars by converting any scanner into a full-feature
network scanner.
- A total software
solution. Requires no hardware.
- Works through
firewalls, complex router configurations, as well as through WAN's and over the
Internet.
- The computer
which is attached to the scanner can be used for any purpose even while other people
are accessing and using the scanner.
- Licensing:
The example diagramed above would require the purchase of one RemoteScan for LAN
license, configured for five users. RemoteScan lets users to access the scanner which is connected to PC where the scanner is attached. RemoteScan for LAN can be configured to allow a scanner to be shared by any number of PC's in increments of 10. RemoteScan for LAN licenses are purchased in 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 user configurations.
RemoteScan® Terminal Services
RemoteScan® for TS/CX
allows any user in a Terminal Services or Citrix® environment to scan directly into
hosted applications.
- RemoteScan® software
has a user friendly installation script and installs easily onto PC's or XPe Thin
Client devices. Any type of Scanner can then be connected directly to PC's or XPe
Thin client devices, and users can then scan directly from their own scanners into
any application running on Terminal Services / Citrix® / Open Desktop Servers.
- RemoteScan® also
works with network copy centers, letting users access high-speed, collating scanners
through applications running on remote servers. In addition, through RemoteScan®'s
scanner sharing functionality, PC users as well as CE and Linux Thin client users
can access the scanners that are attached to other computers.
- Licensing: Each
computer or thin client which is attached to a scanner must have a purchased RemoteScan
license to be legally used. In addition, any end-user PC or Thin Client, which uses
RemoteScan software to access a scanner, must have a purchased license. There is
no charge for the components of RemoteScan which are installed onto the Terminal
Services or Citrix servers. The example diagramed above would require the purchase
of 7 RemoteScan TS/CX licenses: one license for each PC or Thin Client attached
to a scanner, plus licenses for each PC or Thin Client which access scanners through
the Terminal Services/Citrix server.
Using RemoteScan®
RemoteScan® software is provided as downloadable, self-installing
executable. The setup program walks users through the installation and configuration
steps. Downloading, Installing and configuring of RemoteScan takes only a few minutes,
and can be done by any untrained office worker.
RemoteScan® is installed
on each computer or Thin Client appliance where scanners are directly attached,
as well as onto any computer which needs to access the scanners. In Terminal Services
/ Citrix® environments, RemoteScan is also installed on the Windows Terminal Services
/ Citrix Server or 'sever farm'.
For RemoteScan to
function properly, it is necessary to first connect a TWAIN or WIA compatible scanner
to a PC or Thin Client appliance, and then install the scanner driver provided by
the scanner manufacturer. RemoteScan will then become the user interface for the
installed scanner.
When RemoteScan is
used to access high-end Copy Centers, RemoteScan as well as the TWIAN driver for
the Copy Center needs to be installed on only one PC directly connected to the Copy
Center. Then any other user on the network, or Terminal Services / Citrix clients
can access the Copy Center and scan directly into their software applications, rather
than being forced to save scanned images to shared directories.
RemoteScan brief example
- The Terminal
Services / Citrix® version of RemoteScan® is the solution for scanning directly
into applications in a Terminal Services or Citrix® environment. Medical offices
are required by HIPPA requirements to include scanned images of insurance cards
and hand-written notes with every patient's electronic record. With RemoteScan software,
these scanned images can be directly incorporated into the work-flow of any EMR
or medical billing software system, even within a Terminal Services or Citrix environment.
RemoteScan works with all EMR and patient billing systems. With RemoteScan, these
software packages are now able to fully utilize their scanning capabilities when
used with Terminal Services or Citrix.
- The LAN version
of RemoteScan® (included with the Terminal Services version), allows a single scanner
to meet the needs of an office in the same way that a single printer is often shared
by several office workers.
RemoteScan currently
has over 15,000 customers, including numerous hospitals, medical clinics, doctor's
offices, banks, accounting firms, law offices, manufacturing facilities, and government
offices. Customers include businesses located in over 100 countries. RemoteScan®
is approved for use by the Veterans Administration Hospital network, and is recommended
by Wyse Technologies for use on their XPe thin client appliances.
