Program Startup Options:
Load file from initial source directory:
Setting the initial source directory will load specifies to Collate that the user would like this directory opened by default upon each startup of Collate. By default Collate is set to the root drive of the local system until specified otherwise during normal operation.

Load Images on Target Side / Source Side:
When sending images directly to Collate through an outside application Collate would previously only open these files into the Source listing with read-only access to the file. Collate now offers the ability to choose which listing files sent to Collate should be loaded into allowing the user to send incoming files into the Target side for direct editing of the files.

Program Display Options:
Remove source file from view when moved to target list:
After a file has either be dragged onto the target list side or the add file button has been used based on this file option the file s page thumbnail will be removed from the list view. The removal of this page thumbnail is permanent until either the page is removed from target list before saving to a file, or until the Collate program is closed then reopened.

Ask Clear target side list after saving to a file:
After clicking to save the contents of the target list to a file based on the option selected here the file contents of the target side will be completely cleared. This allows the user to begin creating a new file with a blank target list instead of requiring the user to clear the list manually after each save command is initiated.

Large Icon Default Thumbnail Options:
Source / Target Thumbnail Size:
The size of the available “Big Icon” view for Collate is set using the thumbnail size drop down listing. By selecting one of the sizes listed the thumbnail sizes for Collate will automatically resize and scale the images of both the current Source list and Target listing. The sizes can range from a static 96x96 pixel size to one of the two available dynamic sizing options. The full listing is below:.

Largest (484x484)
Large
(383x383)
Normal
(288x288)
Small
(192x192)
Smallest
(96x96)
2 x 2
(Dynamic resizing)
1 over 1
(Dynamic resizing)

Keep the target side the same size as the source:
By checking this option when the Big Icon view is selected for either the target or the source side the sizes each viewable area displays will remain the same. Should the user adjust the target size the source size will retain control over the size that each area displays until the point the user decides to uncheck this option.

Color Setting:
Color Mode:
The color setting option for Collate will determine the color settings for both newly created Tiff and PDF files. For PDF files it may be necessary in most cases to enable the Force PDF page option from the PDF quality settings in order to convert color modes. This is primarily required when using PDF pages from outside PDF documents to create a new PDF document. Creating a new PDF file from image types this option will not be necessary. The available color modes are listed below:

Color (24 bit)
Gray Scale
(8 bit)
Black & White
(1 bit)

TIFF Quality:
Color/Gray and Black/White compression settings:
Collate has options available for two types of documents. Those that contain multiple embedded images, or contrasting shades of gray. For these types of documents compression settings available under Color / Gray are automatically applied. For documents that contain only Black & White images the compression settings under Black / White will automatically be applied.

Please note that compressed documents created using Collate will vary in size depending on the amount of text, embedded images, or any special fonts contained within the document.

PDF Quality:
Color/Gray and Black/White compression settings:
When saving PDF files with one or multiple pages applying compression to the PDF file is suggested. Collate has several levels of compression available that will allow the user to save substantial disk space compared to an uncompressed PDF file. The compression available in no way prevents the user of Collate or anyone using files created by Collate from opening the files in the files default editor.

PDF Versions:
Collate supports saving PDF documents into multiple PDF formats such as Adobe 5.0 (version 1.4), Adobe 6.0 (version 1.5), or the latest Adobe 7.0 (version 1.6). By selecting the PDF version from the options menu you may save PDF documents into the same PDF version as the original document being edited or you may save the PDF file to a higher PDF version. This ability is only available when converting to the same or higher PDF versions. Attempting to save a PDF file to a version less than the original PDF document’s version will result in error. To convert existing PDF files to older PDF compatible versions please see the documentation for the Adobe Acrobat program.

Retain original PDF text for newly created PDF files:
By unselecting this option all newly created PDF files will have the embedded text removed. This will result in a PDF document that is no longer text searchable. By default this option is set to true resulting in embedded text being appended to all newly created document.

Please note that on versions 1.1 through 1.3 of Adobe format may experience limited text retrieval when using 'Force PDF page conversion'.

Use orginal image of formats: jpeg, tiff, gif, and png
If this option is not selected the images being used to create a new document will be converted to an alternative format before being included into the new PDF or Tiff file. By using the original format of the images included into the new file will remain untouched in the exact quality settings insuring higher quality output from Collate.

Force PDF page conversion to specified color mode:
When the Force PDF page option is selected all newly created PDF files will be automatically converted to the color mode choice selected from the Color mode drop down listing at the top of the dialog box. Without this option enabled Collate will continue to bring in each PDF page exactly as it is contained in the original PDF document.

Ask for PDF/TIFF quality every time option:
This option allows the user to set whether the options menu should be displayed upon saving a new file.

PDF Security Setting:
Apply PDF security setting:
By selecting the option to apply PDF security to all newly created PDF files will be subjected to the 128-bit encryption available to Adobe PDF files. The act of selecting to apply security alone does not set encryption on the generated PDF files. A password along with any restrictions will need to be selected for the generated files to include restrictions. Without including both a password and a restriction no PDF security will be applied to the created documents.

As a note by having a password entered into the PDF password text box you may eliminate the need to specify passwords to open or preview password protected documents that containing the same password.

FileCheck target file size:
Allows the user to estimate the file size of the TIFF or PDF being created in the target area.
