Part 8: Descreen/Sharpen Tab

Descreen is a procedure to remove halftone patterns in the background of a scanned image, which usually happens when you scan a magazine or newspaper. You can configure how the descreening should be done with the Descreen tab.

- Do Descreening after Scan:
Check this box to descreen. When checked, other options are enabled.

- Source Material:
This combo box lets you choose the type of source material used for a scan. It takes longer to descreen material that has greater matrix. Try different choices to achieve the best results.

- High Quality/High Speed:
High quality descreening will take longer, but will give you better results. High speed will make descreening faster. To get the best descreen result, you should scan the material in 300 dpi resolution for high speed and 400 dpi resolution for high quality.

- Text Edge Reservation:
Sometimes after descreening, the text edge of the image may appear blurred. You can adjust the level of Text Edge Reservation to reduce the blurring, but still maintain the descreen result.

After descreening, your image may appear blurry. The Sharpen tab lets you set the sharpness level.

- Sharpen image after Scan/descreening:
Check this box if you want to sharpen the image. After you set this option you can adjust the level of sharpness.
